I. REGISTERED COMPANIES AS ON 30th June, 2020.

The total number of companies registered in the country as on 30th June, 2020 stood at 2,014,969. Of them 746,278 companies were closed. 2,242 companies were assigned dormant status as per the Companies Act, 2013; 6,706 were under liquidation; 43,770 companies were in the process of being struck-off. Active in progress status is now invalid and companies under this category, lies under Active Status. Taking the above into account, there were 1,215,973 active companies as on 30th June, 2020.

1. Out of the 746,278 closed companies, 10,980 companies were liquidated/dissolved; 690,773 companies were declared defunct (and hence struck-off after issuance of notice u/s 248). 25,725 companies were amalgamated/ merged with other companies; 13,926 companies were converted to Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) and 4,874 were converted to LLP and dissolved. Table-1.1 presents the summary picture of companies count as on 30th June, 2020.

2. Out of the 1,215,973 active companies, 1,208,133 were limited by shares; 7,535 were limited by guarantee and 305 were unlimited companies. Out of the companies limited by shares, 63,855 were public, 1,115,109 were private including 29,169 one person companies. Among the public limited companies, 6,798 were listed (Table 1.2).

3. State/UT-wise distribution of registered companies indicates that Maharashtra has the highest number of companies (396,764), followed by Delhi (349,463) and West Bengal (207,645). Amongst ‘Active Companies’, Maharashtra has the maximum number of active companies (237,609), followed by Delhi (205,205) and West Bengal (126,478) as on 30th June, 2020. (Table-1.3).

4. Economic-activity wise classification of active companies reveals that highest number of companies were in Business Services (387,766) followed by Manufacturing (243,120), Trading (155,770) and Construction (101,597). Business Services comprise of Information Technology, Research & Development and other business activities such as law, audit & accounts and consultancy, etc. (Table-1.4 and Chart 1.1).

 

 

‘M&Q’ is Mining & Quarrying, ‘TS&C’ is Transport, Storage and Communication, and ‘CP&S is Community, Personal & Social Services, ‘RE&R’ is Real Estate and Renting, ’EG&W’, is Electricity Gas & Water. 13,889 active companies (Others) are having invalid Economic Activity (NIC-2004) Code.

II. ONE PERSON COMPANY

5. Up to 30th June, 2020, a total number of 29,169 One Person Companies (OPCs) were registered with collective authorized capital of Rs. 879.49 crores. Economic activity wise classification of OPCs up to 30th June reveals that the highest number of OPCs were in Business Services (15,826) followed by Community, Personal & Social Services (3,652), Manufacturing (3,187) and Trading (3,011) (Chart 2.1). During the month of June, 2020, a total of 626 OPC were registered with authorized capital of Rs.23.88 crores. Economic activity wise classification of OPC during the month reveals that highest number of 260 OPCs were registered in Business Services, followed by 99 in Manufacturing, 93 in Trading and 75 in Community, personal & Social Services. (Table 2.1).

III. TREND OF REGISTRATION OF NEW COMPANIES

6. An analysis of registration of new companies during June 2018 to June 2020 indicates that monthly registration of companies has increased after hitting lowest of 3,209 Companies in April 2020 (Chart 3.1). A total of 10,954 companies were registered in June, 2020 as compared to 9,619 in June 2019. An increase (126.55%) in registration of companies has been witnessed in June 2020 over the previous month (Table 3.1). A total of 2,273 LLPs were registered in June 2020 as compared to 2,979 LLPs in June 2019 (Table 3.1).

IV. REGISTRATION OF NEW COMPANIES DURING JUNE, 2020

7. During the month of June 2020, a total of 10,954 companies were registered with collective authorized capital of Rs. 1,318.89 crores. Of them 10,903 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with authorized capital of Rs. 1318.70 crores; (Table-4.1).

8. Economic-activity wise classification of companies registered during June 2020 (Table-4.2 and Chart 4.1) reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Business Services (3,399) followed by Manufacturing (2,360), Trading (1,499), Community, personal & Social Services (1,411) and Construction (644).

9. During June, 2020, 1,699 (15.51%) companies were registered in Maharashtra, followed by 1,246 (11.37%) in Delhi, and 1,200 (10.95%) in Uttar Pradesh. (Table-4.3). V. Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs)

10. As on 30th June 2020, a total number of 166,214 LLPs were active in the country. About 82.77% active LLPs (137,573 in number) have obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs each; and only about 3.27% (5,442 in number) of LLPs have obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore each (Table-5.1 and Chart 5.1)

11. Broad economic sector wise classification of active LLPs as on 30th June, 2020 reveals that Service sector account for 126,693 LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 36,412 and 3,108 respectively. Economic-activity wise classification of active LLPs as on 30th June, 2020 further reveals that a large number of LLPs are in Business Services (63,555) followed by Trading (24,760), Manufacturing (20,210) and Real Estate & Renting (16,012) (Table-5.2 & Chart 5.2).

12. During April to June 2020, a total of 4,071 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) were registered with collective obligation of contribution of Rs. 396.14 crore. Economic activity wise classification of LLPs during April to June 2020 indicates that highest number of 1,321 LLPs were registered in Business Services followed by 832 in Trading, 674 in Manufacturing and 465 in Community, Personal and Social Services. (Table 5.3 and Chart 5.3).

VI. FOREIGN COMPANIES.

13. As on 30th June 2020, a total of 4,909 foreign companies were registered in India, of which 3,374 were active. During April 2020 to June 2020, a total of 13 foreign companies were registered in India, having registered offices, 2 (i.e.,15.3%) in each state Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, followed by 1 (i.e., 7.7%) in Odisha. Economic activity wise classification of foreign companies reveals that highest number of 7 were registered in Business Services followed by 3 in Manufacturing, 2 in Community, personal & Social Services, and 1 in Trading. (Table 6.1 and chart 6.1).
